City Council voted to approve $100,000 in funding for a new COVID-19 child care grant program to assist local residents, according to a city statement.

The statement said the grant provides financial assistance to Commerce City residents who, due to COVID-19, are experiencing difficulty paying for child care or have experienced an increase in need for child care. Qualifying residents are eligible to receive up to $200 per child per week (up to eight weeks) for children under the age of 12. Applicants may apply for grant funds for previous child care funding needs dating back to Aug. 17.

Eligibility requirements include proof of residency from parents/guardians and the child, proof that each child is a dependent of the applicant and a demonstration of financial need for child care because of coronavirus, such as reduction in hours or a decline in income.

The deadline for the first round of applications is 5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21. Visit c3gov.com/covid-19-grants. Email questions to communications@c3gov.com.
