Edna Esther Payne, 86 passed away in April 18, 2014, in Louisville.
She was born to Clyde and Esther (Kinder) Chamblin in Fort Lupton. She attended schools in Ft. Lupton and graduated from Ft. Lupton High School.
Edna married Oscar “Merle” Payne in 1951. Edna worked as a replacement postal worker during World War II in order to free local workers for the war effort. Later, she worked in the banking business at Fort Lupton State Bank where she was the Head Teller and Assistant Vice President before retiring after 25 years.
In her retirement years, She and Merle moved to Arkansas and then back to the Colorado where she returned to banking, working another seven years at First National Bank of Westminster.
Edna loved to read, especially Louis L’Amour and Zane Grey. She was a life long member of the Fort Lupton Methodist Church and served as a Sunday School Teacher and church treasurer.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents and a sister. She is survived by her son Bob (Kathy) Payne; grandsons, Rob (Krista) and David (Janelle); and six great grandchildren, and her sister Ruth.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at the Evans Cemetery.
Donation may be made in Edna’s name to either the Fort Lupton United Methodist Church or TRU Community Care Hospice, 1855 Plaza Drive, Louisville, CO 80027.
