BRIGHTON — Those who plan to see Alonzo Ramirez of Prairie View High School this summer have to make plans in advance.
Ramirez, for his part, has to be sure he has a passport for some of his break from school this summer.
Ramirez, who plays for the North Central Conference basketball team, has been invited to play in the Down Under Sports basketball tournament in Australia. The tourney runs from July 13 to July 24, and Ramirez’ team will be in two tournaments.
“From this trip, I will be getting a once-in-a-lifetime experience,” Ramirez said. “I hope I will be more exposed to college coaches.”
Ramirez, who is finishing is junior year in school, averaged 10 points and almost three assists per game in 22 games for the ThunderHawks this season. He got in three games as a member of the varsity team in the 2012-2013 season and scored five points.
“Hopefully, this will get my name more out there,” he said. “College coaches will recognize me, and I will have a good experience of playing with other athletes from around the world.”
