Lakewood’s Angels with Paws is welcoming the warm weather with its annual summer garage sales fundraisers.

From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the last Saturday and Sunday of each month through September, the garage sales will take place at the cat rescue and adoption center, 2540 Youngfield St. People who have items that are in sellable condition and no longer needed can bring them to the center up to a week before each sale.

“We’ve been doing this ever since we opened, so this will be our ninth year,” said Jean Ausenbaugh, founder of Angels with Paws. “One-hundred percent of the money raised goes to the shelter to help with medical costs for the cats and keeping us in business.”

At the Saturday, May 26, garage sale, West Metro Fire and Rescue will have a fire truck at the location from 10 to 11 a.m. for children and adults to tour and capture in pictures.

The items for sale will depend on what people bring in, according to Ausenbaugh, but ranges from clothing to furniture to baked goods and kitchen items. She people have also donated electronics like stereos and even blu-ray players, along with CDs, DVDs, books and games.

“We get so much stuff dropped off that we sometimes don’t have room to store it all until the sale,” she said.

People interested in adopting a cat will also have the chance to do so, as Angels with Paws will be open during the sales so people can visit the animals.

Each sale has been more popular than the last, Ausenbaugh said.

“The very first year we did it, we only made $100, and last month we made around $1,300,” she said. “We’re going all the way through summer and into September because it’s become so popular.”

She said the events are geared toward families, and with the firetruck making an appearance on May 25, she hopes parents will bring their kids along.
