The story of legendary director Mack Sennett and his greatest star, the adorable Mabel Normand is told in flashback by Mack himself as the protagonist narrator, a broken man, made obsolete by talkies, bankrupt and forced to sell his studio, he reminisces about the past, recalling his triumphs and his turbulent love affair with Mabel whom he had discovered and made a star. He loves her, but cannot tell her, sending her into the arms of a rival who feeds her drugs.
The cast of “Mack and Mabel” includes Keegan Flaugh (Mack Sennett), Rachelle Wood (Mabel Normand), Shahara Ray (Lottie Ames), Kris Graves (Fatty Arbuckle), Thomas Jennings (William Desmond Taylor), Daymond Caylo (Frank), Brian Mu7rray (Bauman) and Kevin Hindley (Kessel). The ensemble includes Will Treat, Christian Munck, James Chestnut, Josh Bess, Chelsea Ringer, Sherean Samimi, Jenny Weiss, Jennifer Jorgenson, Angela Mendez, Sara Risner, Linda Swanson Brown and Stephanie Hesse.
Leonard Spigelgass wrote the scripts for eleven Academy Award-winning films. He himself was nominated in 1950 for the story for Mystery Street and garnered three Writers Guild of America nominations over the course of his career.
Tony Award winning composer/lyricist Jerry Herman has the distinction of being the only composer-lyricist in history to have had three musicals that ran more than 1,500 consecutive performances on Broadway. His first Broadway show was Milk and Honey (1961), followed by Hello, Dolly! (1964), Mame (1966), Dear World (1969), Mack & Mabel (1974),The Grand Tour (1979), La Cage Aux Folles (1983), Jerry’s Girls (1985) and "Mrs. Santa Claus" (1996), a CBS TV special starring Angela Lansbury. Showtune, a revue of Jerry's life’s work, is performing in regional theatres around the country and two of Jerry's classic songs are the emotional highlights of the hit Disney-Pixar film WALL-E.
Michael Stewart collaborated with Gower Champion on the 1960 Broadway musical Bye Bye Birdie. He worked again with Champion and Jerry Herman on their musical Hello, Dolly! He was co-bookwriter on 42nd Street and the lyricist for Barnum. Over the course of his career, Stewart worked on eight Tony nominated or award-winning Broadway shows.
