Summer Solstice Volunteer Event at Van Bibber Park

Posted

Kick off summer on Saturday, June 21 by helping to restore flood-damaged trails, remove invasive plants and re-vegetate worn areas at Van Bibber Park.

Sign up today through www.jeffcoopenspace.eventbrite.com to be a part of this family-friendly Solstice Celebration from Jeffco Open Space, starting at 9 a.m. and lasting until 3 p.m. Volunteers will move material along a section of trail to fill ruts and to re-establish trail tread. This work involves shoveling, raking and wheelbarrowing. Volunteers will also seed and mat (re-vegetate) areas of the park.

Please bring a water bottle and sunscreen. Lunch will be provided. There will be door prizes and ice cream at the end to go along with a half-hour presentation on coyotes by Visitor Services Supervisor Mary Ann Bonnell, co-principal investigator for the Denver Metro Area Coyote Study.

The event starts at the main parking lot at 5575 Ward Rd., Arvada, CO. Registration is required in order to secure lunches for everyone.

Jeffco Open Space was founded as a land conservation organization in 1972 to preserve land, protect park and natural resources and provide healthy nature-based experiences. We are funded with a one-half of one percent sales tax that has preserved over 53,000 acres and created 28 regional parks and 227 miles of trails in Jefferson County.
