Success is for Others, not me, Right?

I can see how Bob can find another job, it’s easy for him but not for me.

I can see how Mary can get that promotion, she is so awesome, but I will never be promoted.

It’s easy for Joe to lose all that weight, he has time to commit to it, but I can never lose that much weight.

Wow, Sarah’s kids are all doing so well in school, but I guess my kids can’t quite get there.

So many times, I have overheard conversations or have actually been on the receiving end of a one-sided monologue where someone was actually complaining about the success, even acting jealous of the success of a close friend or even a family member. You have been there too haven’t you?

It seems like success is available to everyone else on the planet with the exception of that particular person or their immediate family. Like some kind of curse has been placed upon them, and they are relegated to nothing but failure for the rest of their lives.

Not true, so not true.

My mentor Zig Ziglar says it this way, “Failure is an event, not a person. Yesterday really did end last night.”

Here’s the deal, success is available to every one of us. Happiness is an opportunity for every one of us. Not just for Bob, Mary, Joe, Sarah and everyone else that we see achieving their goals and dreams. We were created for success and we are destined for achievement.

The difference is found in the believing. Believing in yourself and believing with your heart.

Believing that there are no special people, there are no special circumstances, there are no favored individuals or teams. The point is that success and achievement only elude those who cannot see themselves winning.

If there is any take-away from this week’s column, please remind yourself or someone around you that there is an opportunity that awaits each and every one of us in this life. There will be a chance to win and there will be a realization of a dream or a goal, and maybe, just maybe, even an obstacle that can be conquered.

I would love to hear all about your success at gotonorton@gmail.com and let’s make it a better than good week.
