A traffic stop and routine investigation resulted in the arrest of a 29-year-old man, who now faces a number of charges including illegal possession of a firearm.
Police stopped the car about 9:40 p.m. Aug. 12 on the 3100 block of South Platte River Drive. When the stop was made, police brought in a dog trained to detect drugs. After the dog alerted officers to the possibility of drugs in the vehicle, a search turned up drug paraphernalia and a handgun.
The driver, being a previously convicted felon, is not permitted to have weapons and because of that and the drug paraphernalia, was arrested. He was taken to the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Detention Center.
