Outlets at Castle Rock kick-starts holiday shopping frenzy
For some, Thanksgiving night means football and a food coma. But for others, once the leftovers are put away and the kids are tucked in bed, it means something altogether different: Midnight Madness at the Outlets at Castle Rock.
And by about 8:30 p.m. on turkey day, it was a mad, mad world at the outlet mall when the earliest shoppers took advantage of the first sales on the eve of Black Friday.
Midnight Madness officially began at 9 p.m., Nov. 22, by which time shoppers were in full swing at the outlet mall. Lines were out the door at some of the more popular stores, most notably the Coach outlet, where people queued up in a line that snaked in an organized fashion to allow others to make their way around to the other stores.
The big announcement from the Outlets this year, which is celebrating 20 years in Castle Rock, is the opening of 10 major retailers that include Michael Kors, Le Creuset, Jos A Bank, American Eagle, Clarks Bostonian, Aldo and the return of Restoration Hardware, said Lisa Zetah, Outlets marketing director.
Many first-to-market retailers have been drawn to Outlets across the country, as consumer confidence is recovering, Zetah said.
“We expect next year will be similar as far as stores looking to come here,” she said. “Plus we’re in a great location, situated between two major metropolitan areas.”
Location was the secret for those who made the Outlets their destination for Midnight Madness, which included visitors from Aurora to Colorado Springs.
The Williams family from Fountain has made Midnight Madness a tradition for the last three years and this year brought along some friends to share in the fun.
Barbie Williams and her daughter Shauna come for “the deals and the rush,” Barbie Williams said.
This year Danielle Wheaton and Rusty Bregard joined for their first look at Midnight Madness. The party was among several that stopped for a group photo in front of the Outlets’ Christmas tree, which at 55 feet tall, is touted as the tallest tree in the metropolitan area.
“I’ve never been to Midnight Madness shopping before,” Bregard said. “I’m definitely coming back, just for the atmosphere and the excitement of it.”
