March 23: National Puppy Day

Puppies are a great addition to any family; they make great companions, provide hours of entertainment and they sure are cute. National Puppy Day is on March 23 and we wanted to offer a few secrets to being a successful puppy owner. Step one is to make certain the puppy you are considering is a good match for your family. The next step is to be prepared. Create a happy and warm home for your new furry friend. Make it an easy transition for both the puppy and your family. Here are few key items that can help.

  • Soft Training Treats –As your pup learns the basics (sit, stay, come), keep soft training treats nearby to award your furry friend for good behavior.
  • Behavior deterrent – As you might expect, puppies do not learn their boundaries until they are taught. To keep your new friend out of trouble, use behavior deterrents such as anti-chew sprays. Put this on furniture, cords, or anything your new puppy may try to chew on.
  • Interactive toys – One of the best ways to keep your pet from getting into things they shouldn’t at home is to have an array of interactive toys. Balls will keep the pup energized outside, and chew toys and rope toys will keep your dog occupied for hours. Always supervise your puppy when playing with toys.
  • Stain and odor remover – While you’re in the puppy training process, you’ll want to keep a stain and odor remover on-hand for any accidents that may occur.
