If it’s Tuesday, get running

Running is a great all-around form of exercise that anyone can add to their workout routine, and as the Colorado summer heats up the beautiful weather caters to both those runners who compete and those who prefer to hit the sidewalks, streets and trails for fun.

But before you hit the streets this summer, make sure to plan around the heat with these simple tips:

  • Plan your run when the sun is low and less intense, such as the early morning or late evening. If you aren’t able to plan your run when the sun is low, plan it through shady areas and stay out of the sun as much as possible.
  • Remember that water is your best friend. Whether you drink it, jump in it or wear it, water can keep you going. Take some time to plan your hydration carefully, you can run with a frozen water bottle, put an ice baggie in your hat or sports bra, or plan a few stops to get a drink, refill and recharge.
  • Always wear the proper attire such as lightweight clothing in light colors, a hat, sun glasses and of course, your running shoes.

There are several running groups across Colorado to help you reach your personal goals, whatever they may be. Life Time Fitness locations across Colorado offer Tuesday Night Social Runs every Tuesday, rain or shine. The Social Runs gives everyone – you don’t have to be a Life Time member to participate – the opportunity to start a training program or push themselves for new goals. Distances vary from 1.5 to 6 miles giving everyone a fun group running exercise.

Training, support and expert advice are critical to the success of any running program.  Life Time Run Group Training includes specialized run plans for specific races in the Colorado area, set training times and group runs. Individual training programs are also an option for those looking for one-on-one guidance.

Visit www.lifetimerun.com for more information on upcoming runs we’re training for, including the Rock N Roll Denver Half Marathon in July.
