For Horizon High School Principal Pam Smiley, the graduating class of 2013 won’t be one she easily forgets.
“The class of 2013 and I started at Horizon at the same time,” she said.
“Therefore, they are the first class that I have spent four years as their principal. I am confident I will always remember them and they will be special in my heart.”
The 426 graduating seniors have some unforgettable accomplishments this year, according to Smiley.
• Accumulated $3.1 million of scholarship offers from colleges across the country;
• Achieved the highest ACT composite score of any Horizon class in recent years;
• Has a student, Sawyer Vaughan, who scored a perfect 36 on the ACT.
“In addition,” Smiley said, “the class of 2013 has a Boettcher Scholar, two Daniel’s Fund Scholarship recipients and a National Football Federation Colorado Student/Athlete Academic Honor.”
Athletic accomplishments for the class of 2013 include state playoff appearances by the football team, and both boys and girls basketball teams.
The football team won the Adams 12 District Capra Trophy and the girls’ basketball team won the Front Range League.
These are some of the accomplishments that stand out to Smiley and she thinks the graduating class will remember most about their last year in high school.
“Also, I think they will remember the relationships they had with each other and the many teachers and staff members who helped them academically and personally become their very best,” she said.
