One popular draw at the Florissant Public Library's 10th anniversary party on April 26 was the fossil and geology table manned by Bob Carnein, a member of the Lake George Gem & Mineral Club.

The Florissant Public Library, a branch of the Rampart Library District, celebrated the 10th anniversary of opening its new building on April 26. As Rampart Library District Director Anne Knowles said, with the opening of the new building the library went from a 300-square-foot coal shed to a 67,000-square-foot modern library.

The library is well used. In 2013, there were 23,400 visitors and 20,995 items were checked out, including 5,754 children’s items. At the celebration, visitors participated in face and tile painting, learned about fossils and local geology and ate cake, cookies and other refreshments. There was also a short program that included Debbie Scott singing “America the Beautiful,” “Celebration” by FUN (Friends Unbelievably Nutty), also known as the Library Book Cart Drill Team; and addresses by Knowles and Sheila Naviasky, president of the Friends of the Florissant Library.
