El Paso County Sheriff's Office says police and fire crews are at the scene of a fire on Shoup Road and Highway 83 that was first reported about 2 p.m. The fire is about 15 acres near the 12600 block of Peregrine Way near Black Forest Regional Park.

The Colorado Office of Emergency Management is sending a field manager to the scene.

The Colorado Springs Fire Department called the fire "aggressive" and said it was moving quickly. The department has dispatched seven fire engines to the scene and the Colorado Springs Police Department is also assisting.

Reverse emergency notifications ordering residents to evacuate were sent to all homes in the Cathedral Pines neighborhood. Officials also ordered evacuations for homes south of Shoup Road, north of Fox Chase, east of Holmes and west of Tahosa.

The Red Cross has set up a shelter for residents at Palmer Ridge High School, located at 19255 Monument Road in Monument.

Residents in Black Forest were being evacuated because of the fast moving fire that started early this afternoon.

The fire is burning near Black Forest and Shoup Roads, east of Colo. 83. At this time it is not known how many acres the fire has burned. Several homes have been destroyed in the burn area.

Black Forest is receiving assistance from Tri-Lakes Monument Fire, the Air Force Academy, Falcon, Colorado Springs, Palmer Lake and Douglas County Fire districts.
