El Paso County Fair Queen Maggie Murphy visited the Board of Commissioners Thursday, June 19, to promote the 2014 El Paso County Fair, which is July 19 to 26 at the Fairgrounds in Calhan.
Maggie went through the activities and events at this year’s fair including carnival rides, Wild About Monkey’s, comedian and ventriloquist Joe Gandelman, kid’s pedal tractor pull, and an exotic petting zoo. “I’ve seen some of those animals on TV. I’m excited to see them in real life up close.”
Saturday, July 19: Military Appreciation Day, (active duty military, veterans and dependants free with valid ID);
Auto Races highlighted by the appearance of NASCAR drivers Kenny Wallace and Kenny Schrader.
Sunday, July 20: Western Heritage Day; Flying W Wranglers concert and Wagon Train.
Monday, July 21: Free Admission Monday.
Tuesday, July 22: Youth Day.
Wednesday, July 23: Dollar Day ($1 admission); Got Talent contest.
Thursday, July 24: 4-H & FFA Day; CTTPA Tractor Pull.
Friday, July 25: Senior Day ($3 for seniors); CPRA Rodeo and Overton Road concert.
Saturday, July 26: First Responder Day ($1 off admission, including family members); Demolition Derby Night.
Maggie, 18, is the daughter of Larry and Jennie Murphy of Peyton and is a graduate of Falcon Virtual Academy. She is currently a student at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs where she is taking pre-veterinary classes. She hopes to transfer to another school to attend veterinary school.
