DENVER CHILDREN’S THEATRE RUMPELSTILTSKIN PRODUCTION

MARCH-APRIL AT MACC AT THE JCC

Denver -- Families and school groups will marvel at the magic of the live theatre production of "Rumpelstiltskin". This show takes the stage in the Elaine Wolf Theatre at the Mizel Arts & Culture Center (MACC) at 1 p.m. on Sundays from March 9 through April 27 (no performance April 20). Tickets: $10/general admission; $9/children, students & seniors. For tickets or more information, call 303-316-6360. MACC is located at 350 S. Dahlia St., Denver, CO  80246.

"Rumpelstiltskin" centers around an overprotective Miller who refuses to let his young daughter help with any work. Despite her rare beauty, she is helpless when it comes to the mundane chores of everyday life.  In an attempt to defend his daughter’s uselessness, the Miller makes the mistake of falsely proclaiming that his daughter can spin straw into gold.  Meanwhile, the Kingdom is in a predicament when the King suddenly dies leaving the young prince to inherit the throne. As the years progress, the wealth of the kingdom is squandered on frivolous expenses, and the young prince quickly turned king, finds himself at odds with his subjects. All that remains in the treasure rooms of the palace are piles upon piles of straw. The King, in dire need of wealth, seeks the assistance of the Miller’s daughter. He believes her to be capable of returning him to his affluent state by turning his piles of straw into gold. The story concludes with the characters facing life-altering decisions, broken promises, and an array of mysterious events. Themes include the power of friendship, the destructive nature of vanity and greed, and the value of forgiveness

Billie McBride has directed previous plays at MACC, Arvada Center, Denver Center for the Performing Arts and Colorado Springs Conservatory and works her magic again on this production, using Mike Kenny's Kenny’s inventive and creative dramatization of the world famous Grimm's fairy tale. Mc Bride brings Denver’s most accomplished adult actors Adrian Egoff (Daughter), Lindsey Pierce (Queen Mother), Rachel Graham (Rumpelstiltskin), Brian Landis Folkins (Miller/Chancellor), Damon Guerrasio (King), Missy Moore (Mess), to the stage.

The award-winning Denver Children’s Theatre has been producing quality theatre for young audiences for 17 years, presenting a fully mounted mainstage production featuring some of the finest adult professional actors in the region. DCT was awarded the 2009 Henry Award for Outstanding Children’s Theatre, the Colorado equivalent of a Tony Award.
