The Crisis Center in Douglas County is offering training specifically for children exposed to domestic violence and will explore the impact it has on them.
The interactive workshop, called "Through the Eyes of a Child: A View from Within Child Witnesses of Domestic Violence," is at 8:30 a.m. Feb. 22 at the Douglas County Event Center. It will provide attendees with a glimpse into the life of a child living with domestic violence by using vignettes from the perspectives of child witnesses. Topics will include:
* Characteristics of a perpetrator of domestic violence as seen through their child's eyes.
* Traumatic bonds and the impact of interviewing child witnesses of DV.
* Developmental and neurological impact on children who experience domestic violence-A trauma-informed model.
* Effective interventions to assist children exposed to domestic violence, as well as, interventions for perpetrators and non-offending parents. Who should attend? Child Protection workers, victim advocates, law enforcement, CFIs, PREs, family law attorneys, judges, magistrates, court facilitators, child support enforcement, social workers, and mental health professionals.
