Computer users encounter FBI virus

If it's not one thing it's another

The FBI virus is among the latest infringements on personal computers. “On the screen, the virus will have a picture of President Obama and the words `you've been caught' and it will have several things, such as child pornography, movie pirating, for instance,” said Nic Bovee, store manager of The PC Shop in Woodland Park. “The categories are very broad and intended to scare people. Some of them take the person's picture.”

From there, the program says the person is subject to a $250,000 fine. However, with a $300 payment within 24 to 48 hours, the victim can halt the charge, Bovee said.

The victim is told to get a card at Walmart in order to transfer $300 to the stated organization. ”If you encounter any suspicious activity, getting off the internet would be the best thing to do first,” he said. “If they log into you main account, if they've got your phone number they've got your bank information.”
