Baseball district tournament pairings announced

Pairings for the Class 5A district baseball tournaments were announced May 8.

Chaparral, ThunderRidge and Regis Jesuit of the Continental League will host a four-team district tourney May 11. The winners of the eight district tournaments will advance to the double-elimination state tournament.

Denver East (12-6) will play Chaparral (15-4) in a 10 a.m. opening game of the District 5 tournament at the Wolverines’ diamond with Ralston Valley (11-8) meeting Fort Collins (11-8) at 12:30 p.m. The championship game is set for 3 p.m.

Times for all district tournament games are 10 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m.

ThunderRidge (14-5) goes against Fossil Ridge (8-11) with the winner taking on the Grand Junction (11-7) vs. Rampart (12-7) winner for the District 8 title.

Lakewood (10-9) tests host Regis Jesuit (13-5) with Douglas County (11-8) meeting Chatfield (11-8) in the second District 2 game.

In the District 4 tournament at Cherry Creek, Castle View (8-11) plays the defending state champion Bruins (17-2) in the opener with Ralston Valley (11-8) and Fort Collins (8-11) clashing in the second game.

Mountain Vista (11-7) challenges Cherokee Trail (7-12) in the District 6 tournament at Dakota Ridge with Dakota Ridge (13-6) and Brighton (14-4) meeting in the first game.

Legend (12-7), last season’s Class 5A runners-up, travels to Pine Creek to play Fairview (12-7) in the second game of the District 7 tournament with Pine Creek (15-4) facing Greeley West (11-8) in the other game.

In the Class 4A districts, Valor Christian will be in Delta for the District 6 tournament. The Eagles (12-7) will play Longmont (12-7) while Delta (16-3) battles Thomas Jefferson (11-8) in the opening game.
