Why: Scleroderma is one of the most misunderstood, misdiagnosed and underfunded autoimmune diseases. Awareness must be raised in the public eye, as well as in the medical field. Diagnosis of this often life threatening disease can be a long, complicated road for almost all patients.

This walk was the first in Ft Collins, 6 years after the 1st Denver walk. Since then the chapter has grown from supporting mostly Denver Metro area patients and their families, to people all over the state.

My Aunt suffered the physical and mental anguish of the disease for months before doctors finally correctly diagnosed her with Scleroderma. She lost her battle with the disease just a year and a half later. Three years following this traumatic life event, I was prematurely diagnosed with a slightly less severe form of Scleroderma. This is a frightening disease that not only affects the body by hardening the skin over time, but can also affect internal organs and lead to heart and lung failure. Funding is necessary for much needed research to help find better ways to diagnose patients, treat and support those with Scleroderma, and hopefully one day find a cure. With your help we can quickly spread the word to many people! Thank you so much for your time.
